BIEM/WCO Memorandum of Understanding
BIEM/WCO Memorandum of Understanding
By virtue of the TRIPS agreement and European Council regulation No. 3295/94, customs departments currently have a role to play in the fight against piracy. To reinforce this fight against pirated goods, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the World Customs Organization and BIEM on 12 February 1997.
Under the terms of this agreement, cooperation is to be established between both organizations. It will lead to a regular exchange of information and mutual advice to identify movements of suspect good through the boarders, thus trying to limit international trade of pirated sound carriers.
